Chen's dramatic Red Dress will be performed at the Gretna Music Festival at the Mt. Gretna Playhouse in Elizabethtown, PA as the final concert in their Intersections series exploring classical music and the dance. The music, Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, will be performed by internationally renown pianists Charles Abramovic and Matthew Bengston. Please contact Gretna for ticket information.

Tso Dance Association of Taiwan will produce a full evening dance concertChien Lien, Lien Chien featuring Chen's 12 Taiwanese songs and dances. It is a cross-discipline (music, dance and theater) and cross cultural collaboration (Taiwanese and American). The work joins the unbounded creativity of two artistic communities, Shenandoah Conservatory faculty and students and Taiwanese Tso Dance Association dancers and choreographers. Chien Lien, Lien Chien explorse complex human relationships built upon trust, destroyed by betrayal, and recovered through redemtion and love.

Chen has been invited by the review board to teach and present two papers and one choreography at the 2012 Dance and the Child International & World Dance Alliance Global Dance Summit in Taiwan titled “Dance, Young People and Change.” She will be accompanied by three Sheanndoah dance majors Maura Fowler, Liza Rachford, Elaijah Williams as her Flying Lions Dance Company members for the occasion. The DaCi conference includes research presentations and performances by dancers and choreographers from around the world. She will be sharing findings of her First Year Seminar teaching and learning phenomenon, cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary collaborations and creativity.

Chen's new work Lost Edge is premiered at the Spring Dance Concert, Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre of Shenandoah University. It is a cross-discipline (music, dance, theater and recording technology) and cross cultural collaboration (Taiwanese and American). In May 2011,Chen's parents flew in from Taiwan to collaborate with Shenandoah Conservatory composer Tom Albert and faculty musicians (Glenn Caluda, Garrick Zoeter, Donovan Stokes, Earl Yowell, Hsin-Yi Chen). Golder O'neill, Albert and chen produced a 12 Taiwanese songs album featuring Chen's father also a Taiwnaese renown singer Liong-Shen Hiah. This music is created to accompany a full evening dance concert featuring Chen's choreography in Taiwan this summer. Lost Edge is a preview version and will showcase 5 of the 12 songs at the dance concert. The work features the unbounded creativity resides at SU and honors the artistic community of faculty and students. Please contact the SU Box Office for ticket information.

Chen's new work Red Dress is premiered at the Fall Dance Concert, Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre of Shenandoah University. Red Dress was commissioned by the Gretna Music Festival in PA to be accompanied by two internationally renown pianists playing live Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps for Piano, Four Hands. Taiwanese songs in May, 2011; and 2) full evening-length dance concertto be produced in Taiwan in summer 2012.
